Normally around the months of July and August many people like to try out new recipes. I am not exactly sure why, but there is something about the summer that makes people want to try out new things.
Some of the new recipes they like to try out include creating bolder” versions of traditional recipes. Many people like grilled chicken, but they like it better when it has a bolder taste. One way to make this recipe more flavorful is by adding some spicy ingredients. You can start by adding some hot sauce and red peppers to the barbeque sauce. This will not only add a much more bolder flavor, but it will also make the chicken have a very rich golden color. Also if you want to add a little sweetness to go with spicy ingredients, you can glaze the chicken with some peach preserves or some honey. Both will balance out the spiciness and give a more flavorful balance. For a beverage and side dish, try serving some cold cherry lemonade and some grilled corn on the cob.
Another recipe that taste better with more bolder ingredients is potato salad. Traditionally this dish is made with potatoes, boiled eggs, cut up pickles, mayonnaise and a dash of paprika. Although many people have served this recipe at picnics and during the holidays, it is still considered by many (including me) to be very bland. One way to spice it up a bit is by adding in some red and green peppers. This will add some color and also some much needed crunch. You can also try adding in some grilled scallops or shrimps. Adding in some seafood ingredients will take this recipe to a whole new level. Can you imagine how good the scallops or shrimp would taste mixed in with the other ingredients? Some side dish suggestions would be stuffed tuna lettuce leaves or stuffed tomatoes with crab salad. For a beverage, try serving some cold pink lemonade or a glass of freshly squeezed apple juice. Both go very well with potato salad and seafood.
Savory dishes are not the only recipes that you can spice up. You can also create some bolder dessert flavors too. One of my favorite bold desserts is a chocolate cupcake topped with a red chili pepper and chocolate frosting. I am not sure why, but chocolate and red pepper go very well together. This flavor combination has that sweet and savory thing going on. To make this recipe even bolder, you can also fill the cupcake with a chocolate chipolte cream. This will give the cupcake even more richness and spice. This cupcake would definitely go well with milk chocolate pudding or chocolate chip ice cream.
