There are many people who work in positions today that generally do not get respect from management or the public.
One of these positions is a receptionist, a position that usually does not get the respect that it deserves.
Many company managers don’t realize that the receptionist is one of the most important people in a company. This is because they are usually the first point of contact a customer has with a business. If initial communication with a company is negative, then a person will most likely not do business with that particular company.
In addition, not only does a receptionist have to always be cordial and professional over the phone, but they must also dress and be very professional in person as well. For example, a client that walks into a large prestigious advertising agency is expecting to be treated with dignity and respect. This includes seeing a well dressed and professional person sitting at the front desk. One of the reasons they are expecting this is because they are probably paying the agency ten thousand dollars or more in monthly retainer fees. If they are paying this type of money, then they expect the agency to be able to hire a professional receptionist.
However, some receptionists often treat clients and customers the same way they are treated by their employer. If management is not treating the receptionist with respect, then most likely the receptionist’s frustration will come through when they are interacting with clients and customers. This is why it is important to hire a professional person in this position and treat them well. If not, a company could potentially lose a lot of business and some very important clients, and also risk getting a bad industry reputation.
Another position that usually does not get any respect is a fast food worker. These individuals are usually treated and looked upon disrespectfully by the public. I don’t know why some people treat fast food workers this way, because it takes a lot of skill and knowledge to process hundreds of cash transactions and food orders on a daily basis. Besides, I for one will always give the utmost respect to anyone that is responsible for preparing my food.
This bad treatment and lack of respect makes many fast food workers upset. This is why when you sometimes visit a fast food restaurant, the workers seem angry and are difficult to deal with. You would probably be a little angry yourself if you had to deal with disrespectful customers all day.
It also doesn’t help that most fast workers generally make just a little above minimum wage. This seems ridiculous given the fact that most fast food chains typically generate millions of dollars per year. If they want to keep generating those millions of dollars, then they had better treat their workers with a little more respect by paying them a decent wage.
