This is a question a lot of CEO’s of small start-ups have been asking lately. Over the past few years a growing number of new business start-ups have launched YouTube channels to help promote their products and services. Now the question is, have these business reaped any benefits from launching a YouTube Channel? The answer to this question can vary depending on who you ask.
From a marketing perspective, there have been many business owners who have said that launching a YouTube Channel has been good for their overall business. This has included improving their online visibility and also seeing an increase in website traffic. However they also state that you have to strategically market your channel if you want to generate positive results. Part of this strategy involves knowing who your target audience is. Once this has been established, then the next step is knowing when to add new content. Some update their content daily, while others update their content on a bi-weekly basis.
On the other hand you have some who say that they have not experienced any benefits from launching a YouTube Channel. For the most part, they feel that only YouTube is benefiting financially from their online content. This feeling is primarily coming from those who have managed to generate high weekly and monthly viewing numbers. Because of the high volume of traffic their channels are generating, YouTube has been able to attract a large percentage of advertisers. The owners of these sites however would like to receive a cut of this advertising revenue.
According to an article I read lately, YouTube is currently working on a new model that would provide better revenue generating options for video owners. If this is true, then more and more business owners will probably starting launching YouTube Channels.
In addition to small business start-ups, a lot of large established companies have also launched their own online channels. This includes a lot of consumer companies that sell things like detergent and electronic products. These companies have used their YouTube channel to advertise a special offer or promotion, or an upcoming customer contest. Although I have not been able to find any hard numbers, I have read articles that stated online platforms like YouTube has been beneficial for these type of companies.
Based on the above, it is still somewhat hard to determine if launching a YouTube Channel has any real marketing or business benefit. However, based on what I have learned I do believe that launching an online channel can be effective if used in conjunction with other online marketing strategies.
