If you look on the internet today you will find thousands of media sources to choose from. There are actually so many out there today that it is hard to determine the best ones.
Before the internet became so popular, I had two or three print publications that I depended on for my news and media updates. These included the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and the National Business Chronicle. Now I have shifted to reading these publications online along with a dozen of other pubs.
I still like to read the National Business Chronicle because it covers a wide range of news events in other cities. Some of the cities I typically follow are Phoenix, Dallas, Seattle and Atlanta. I am interested in these particular cities because they all seem to have a lot going on business and economic wise. For example, I read in the chronicle last week that Atlanta is resurrecting a lot of commercial projects and the city is also adding a lot of new bike trails. When I read stories like this, it makes me feel that the economy is truly starting to get better. I also recently read that the city of Phoenix is getting more involved in solar technology, which is a resource that I feel will become increasingly important in the near future.
I also still read the Washington Post so I can keep up on the latest political news. Over the past few weeks a lot has been going on in congress. This has included a review of the new healthcare website and also an attempt to pass a budget bill. The only thing I don’t like about the online version of the Washington Post is that it doesn’t seem to feature as much information as the print version. I am assuming that you can still get the print edition at select public locations, because not everyone likes to read the news on their iPhone or laptop.
I have also found that online publications like Mediapost provide useful daily updates about what is going on in the media and marketing industry. I have come to rely on this online pub to keep me updated on the latest personnel changes and which media companies have secured new client accounts.
The online version of Adweek is a very good source for keeping up on the latest advertising news. Advertising has really changed a lot over the past several years, which has included more major consumer companies awarding accounts to small boutique ad agencies. There was a time when these type of accounts were only awarded to large ad agencies that had been in business for many years. Today it is not unusual for prime accounts to be awarded to an agency that has only been around for five years or less.
