I didn’t actually look at the Grammy Awards show this year, because I was turned off by all the commercials and promos before the show.
About two weeks before the show broadcast, the internet was full of promotional videos about who would be appearing on the show. As soon as I heard that Jay Z and Beyonce would be performing together, I decided not to watch. And based on what I heard about their performance, I definitely made the right decision.
The song they sang “Drunk in Love” included a very raunchy dance performance. I don’t know why the Grammy’s would want to include a performance like this, especially since they know a lot of young people would be watching. Wait a minute, what am I thinking? This is the Grammy’s Awards we are talking about. All the show creators care about is money. And as much as I dislike Beyonce and Jay Z, I have to admit that they attract a large audience.
Why Beyonce would agree to participate in a performance like this is beyond me. If her husband really cared about her and respected her, he would never ask her to participate in anything like this. As if this performance was not bad enough, I read on the internet the next day that actor Jaime Foxx made some very raunchy comments about Beyonce performance and body. If this were me I would have felt totally degraded. I would like to know how Jay Z would feel if his daughter Blue Ivy grew up and performed on stage like this. I am sure that he would not want anyone making raunchy remarks about his daughter.
There was actually one highlight about the Grammy’s I liked, and that was Robin Thicke’s song “Blurred Lines” not receiving one single award. The song has very bad lyrics and the video is absolutely disgraceful. I mean is this what it takes to sell a song today? I guess the answer is yes because just about every artists today is doing this.
I guess I am having a hard time trying to figure out why the Grammy’s Awards show has come to this. I can remember a time when the Grammy’s was a classy and exciting event. During the 70’s and 80’s for example, the majority of shows featured groups and solo singers that sang fun and inspirational songs. Also, the show attendees dressed up for the event, which included female singers wearing dresses that left something to imagination and male performers wearing their pants ‘above’ their waist. Now when you turn on the show you have no idea what you might you see. This includes bad jokes and raunchy performances.
