Just the other day a friend emailed me and asked where they could find information about concerts featuring old school artists like the Spinners and the Stylistics. I knew that these groups had unofficially retired, but I knew they were still giving some special performances in select parts of the country.
After I got my friend’s email I did an internet search. After searching for about an hour I was able to find some old school concert dates. Some of my search results included two concert performances for the Spinners. Although I know that many of the original members of the Spinners have passed away, it was good to discover that the group is still performing. Based on the information I found, they are scheduled to perform this summer in Florida. My friend was so happy to hear this news, that she purchased tickets the very next day. My friend is looking forward to hear the group sing some of her favorite hits such as “Love Don’t Love Nobody”, “Sadie” and “I’ll Be Around”. She is also looking forward to spending a few days in sunny Florida.
Doing this research for my friend piqued my interest in finding more old school concerts. The main thing I think I was curious about, is finding out how many old school groups and singers were still around. I am happy to report there are quite a few.
Upon further research I discovered that the Temptations also have some upcoming concert performances this year. The only remaining original member of the group is the founder, Otis Williams. Of course most of you remember the group from back in the day when Paul Williams and Melvin Franklin were members of the group and Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin took turns singing lead vocals. According to the concert schedule the group will be appearing in Florida, Indiana and South Carolina. You can also purchase these tickets online. I can imagine that a lot of long time Motown fans will want to see the group perform. I am sure many will be shouting from the audience for the group to sing hits like “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”, “Just My Imagination” and “Cloud Nine”.
I was also happy to see that Anita Baker and Stephanie Mills are still performing. Both of these ladies have beautiful voices, and they both had a string of hits back in the 1980’s and 90’s. Some of Baker’s hits included “Sweet Love”, “You’re the Best Thing Yet”, “Caught Up in the Rapture of Love” and “Angel”. While Mills had hits like “Home”, “I Feel Good All Over” and “What You Gonna Do With My Loving”.
