If you look around most major cities today you will see food trucks popping up everywhere. On Friday afternoons you can find food trucks parked at major office complexes, and on Saturday mornings you can find a variety of food trucks at local community parks. So just which types of food trucks are the most popular? Some say it’s the one’s that sell hot wings and burgers, and others say it’s the one’s that sell pizza and grilled cheese sandwiches.
Launching a food truck business can be risky, but the risk can really pay off if you find the right food niche. This is exactly what a lot of Atlanta-based food truck operators are finding out. Atlanta is slowly becoming a popular place for food trucks, and the one’s that seem to be the most popular are ones that sell pizza and authentic Gyro sandwiches. On a Saturday afternoons you will see people standing in long food truck lines placing orders for customized mini-pizzas. In addition to offering customers traditional pizza toppings like olives, tomatoes and green peppers, customers also have the option of ordering unusual toppings like artichokes, apple slices, sunflower seeds, beets, and chunks of salmon. Because of these unusual ingredient options, there are some pretty weird mini-pizzas coming out of those food trucks.
I don’t know what it is, but people in Atlanta really love authentic Gyro sandwiches. They just can’t seem to get enough of that savory lamb flavor. This is why you see so many food trucks in Atlanta that sell Gyro sandwiches and other types of Greek food. Many local Atlanta residents also like to eat fresh Greek pita bread, homemade baklava, and other authentic Greek desserts.
So I guess if you want to be a successful food truck operator in Atlanta, you should sell customized pizzas and authentic Greek food.
To find out what other types of food trucks are popular I did some additional market research.
My additional research showed that food trucks that sell specialty cupcakes and hand rolled sushi do very well in Malibu, California. On most Saturday afternoons during the summer and spring months I am told that you can usually find a long line of sushi food trucks parked on beaches and near beachfront walkways. I guess local residents like to order a platter of sushi and then head down to the beach and soak up the sun. I personally don’t like sushi, but I will admit that this sounds like a very relaxing way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
My research has also shows that food trucks that sell cupcakes are also very popular in the Malibu area. These food trucks don’t sell traditional cupcakes, but they sell specialty cupcake flavors like lemon peach, green tea, red licorice, and pomegranate.
