If you want to surprise your dinner guests serve them something unexpected for a main course or dessert.
I can’t tell you how many times I have attended a dinner party and wished the host served something besides meatloaf, tuna casserole or baked chicken. As I looked around the table I realized that most of the other guests felt the same. After eating my share of dry meatloaf and tasteless baked chicken, I decided to come up with some new exciting dinner party recipes.
Instead of serving typical baked chicken that everyone is expecting, how about surprising your dinner guests with a pasta dish made with chocolate based noodles. Most people have probably never had chocolate pasta noodles, but you can find them at specialty food stores. The chocolate flavor is very subtle and doesn’t over power other ingredients. The thing I like most about these noodles however is the rich brown color — which makes a dish look more appetizing.
Chocolate based noodles are also very versatile. You can serve them as a main course or as a side salad. If you’re going to use the noodles as a main course, to make the dish more filling add in some grilled chicken, chopped green onions, and green peppers. For a salad, serve the noodles cold and add in chunks of pineapple, sliced almonds, and lentils. I guarantee your dinner guests will be surprised to see you serve this instead of meatloaf or baked chicken.
I have also attended many dinner parties where I wished the host served something different for dessert besides plain vanilla cake or apple pie. In most cases the vanilla cake is very dry and the apple pie has no taste. And don’t get me started about the times I attended a dinner party where the dessert was orange jello and whip cream. If you are thinking about hosting a dinner party, I sincerely hope that you are planning to serve something a little more exciting for dessert. If you need some dessert ideas, try serving a 3 layer peanut butter and strawberry jam cake or a chocolate cherry pie.
To make the peanut butter jam cake, you can use any cake flavor you want but I prefer to use strawberry or banana. To make the icing, mix in two large tablespoons of peanut butter with vanilla or strawberry frosting. After the cake has finished baking, put strawberry jam in a piping bag and pipe the jam into each layer.
To make the dark chocolate cherry pie, melt dark chocolate and add in two tablespoons of Greek yogurt and chopped cherries. Pour the mixture into a pie crust and let it chill in the refrigerator for 45 minutes.
All these recipes taste delicious and will be a welcome surprise for your dinner guests.
