I love experimenting with different cupcake flavors because it is so much fun. I not only get a chance to use my imagination, but I also get an opportunity to create some really cool cupcakes.
If you are tired of eating plain yellow cupcakes, why not try making some lime green cupcakes instead? To create the lime green color and flavor you will need to mix un-chilled lime jell-o and fresh squeezed lemon juice together. Add this mixture into your cupcake batter and keep mixing until you get a beautiful lime green color. You can even add the jell-o mix and lemon juice to your frosting. Because of the vibrant color, I think these cupcakes would be great to serve at a bridal shower or a graduation party. You could serve a cupcake on a small plate with a scoop of lime sherbet or lemon ice cream.
I also like to make ‘pink’ cupcakes, because the color pink just makes me feel better. I make my pink cupcakes by adding fresh cherries to my yellow cupcake batter. You may be thinking it would probably be easier to just add a few teaspoons of cherry juice, but I think fresh cherries work better. I also like the fact that you can taste bits of cherry when you bite into the cupcake. I make sure all the pits are out of the cherries, and I keep mixing the batter until it turns pink. I also like to add bits of cherries to my frosting. These cupcakes would be great for a brunch buffet or a little girl’s birthday party. I think the guests will really enjoy the cherry taste. To go with the cupcakes you could serve cherry ice cream cones or cherry fruit punch in little pink cups.
Orange is another color that I think looks cool on a cupcake. There are so many ways you can create the orange color, but I prefer to use mashed sweet potatoes. I bake two sweet potatoes in the oven, peel them and mash them up. I add the sweet potato mash to the cupcake batter and blend it until it turns a beautiful orange color. To top the cupcakes I use a white frosting blended with chopped walnuts, orange juice, and infused with cinnamon.
Another version of this cupcake is to add un-chilled orange jell-o and orange juice to the batter to create the orange color.
While I am experimenting in the kitchen I will also usually make different versions of chocolate cupcakes. Sometimes I make cupcakes with variations of dark chocolate, and other times I use white chocolate and cocoa powder mixed with peanut butter. Out of all the cupcake flavors I experiment with, my favorites are orange and chocolate.
